«Образ идеального правителя» в контексте политической доктрины новоанглийского пуританизма XVII-XVIII вв.

Аннотация

Статья посвящена эволюции представлений пуритан Новой Англии о происхождении института светской власти, полномочиях правителей, их ответственности перед народом и возможности восстания против тиранов. Руководствуясь концепцией национального ковенанта, основатели колонии Массачусетс провозгласили коллективную ответственность всех членов пуританской общины за неукоснительное следование Божественным предписаниям. Задачи руководителей колоний Новой Англии состояли, прежде всего, в контроле за соблюдением религиозных норм, и в пуританском политическом дискурсе первой половины XVII в. преобладала тема подчинения рядовых участников «пуританского эксперимента» мудрым и набожным правителям, заботящимся об «общем благе». В отличие от политических проповедей и памфлетов, вышедших из-под пера пуританских авторов в первой половине XVII в., полемическая литература периода «Славной революции» практически лишена религиозной аргументации. Задача светского правителя отныне состояла, прежде всего, в защите «исконных прав и привилегий» подданных английской короны, принципа равенства естественных прав людей, а не «истинной» пуританской веры. Естественноправовая аргументация пуританских проповедников была встроена в традиционный богословский дискурс, тем не менее их проповеди служили важнейшим каналом интеллектуального трансфера, создавая благоприятные условия для полноценного восприятия жителями Новой Англии концепций Просвещения, в том числе касающихся вопросов происхождения политической власти, предпочтительной модели государственного устройства, обязанностей правителей перед своими подданными, обоснованием прав и свобод колонистов и гарантий их соблюдения. Священники конгрегационалистских церквей Новой Англии сыграли особую роль в мобилизации патриотического лагеря в годы Войны за независимость. Активно включившись в обсуждение вопроса республиканской добродетели, пуританские проповедники придали процессу строительства нового государства в Северной Америке нравственное измерение.
