"Auctoritas" и "potestas" как метафоры образа действий епископа в канонах Толедских соборов VII в.

Аннотация

Статья посвящена базовой для Средневековья оппозиция auctoritas и potestas, которая рассматривается применительно к фигуре епископа преимущественно на материалах постановлениях Толедских соборов. Поскольку эти термины не были закреплены только за светской или духовной властью не было, сначала делается краткий обзор их словоупотребления. В результате, во-первых, была уточнена специфика взаимодействия королевской власти с Церковью, для которой светская власть воспринималась как внешняя. Во-вторых, были отмечены случаи нетехнического употребления слов auctoritas и potestas по отношения к епископу – эти примеры затем и рассматриваются. Для их понимания прежде прослеживается преемственность римских полисных представления об auctoritas по отношению к авторитету епископа (зрелый возраст, опыт, красноречие, благотворительная деятельность, репутация, основанная в том числе на таких качествах, как grauitas, prudentia, probitas). Как и в римское время, auctoritas епископа означала прежде всего его силу убеждения, поэтому главными инструментами управления были проповедь и увещевание (sacerdotalis admonitio): подчиненные по своей воле (uoluntas propria) вставили на путь исправления. Если епископ не доставало авторитета, он мог прибегнуть к различным видам наказания (animaduersio sacerdotalis), которые увязывались с понятием potestas. Автор делает предположение, что слова auctoritas и potestas могли использоваться как метафоры для описания моделей поведения епископа. Если преобладал образ действий «potestas», связанный со сферой секулярного, то это могло привести к разрушению общины как выстроенного на сакральных основаниях малого сообщества, в котором отношения должны были выстраиваться на основе консенсуса, достигнутого ненасильственным путем. Сделанные наблюдения позволяют уточнить распространенное утверждение, что с V в. auctoritas якобы связывалась только с духовной властью, а potestas – со светской.
