In article problems of a technique of reading texts of folklore at elementary school are considered. The author considers a turn of the XX–XXI centuries when the Russian primary education after disintegration of the USSR significantly changes. At this time the technique of reading texts of folklore actively develops. The technique takes into account: problems of literary reading; purposes of literary education; successes of modern science about folklore; specific features of subculture of the childhood; psychological properties of the younger pupil of school; interrelation of children's literature and folklore. Development of a technique of reading texts of folklore fi nds reflection in textbooks. The contents of textbooks change, their structure changes also.
