The article deals with the comparison of the adverbs mañana ‘tomorrow’, ahora, ahorita ‘now’ and their semantically and culturally relevant traits. Actualization of their meanings represents common and distinctive features in the attitude to time by Russian and Spanish native speakers and also by residents of Spain and of several countries of Latin America. The diminutive forms of the given adverbs of time are of special interest in this case, as the awareness of their semantic and pragmatic potential plays an important part in preventing possible communicative failures.
