The religious reformism of the beginning of the twentieth century in Russia was based on some historical precedents. One of them was probably the religious worldview of archimandrite Feodor (Bukharev), the religious thinker of the second half of the XIX c. The author raises the question about the perception of archimandrite Feodor’s religious conceptions by New-Christianity. The author uses Bukharev’s conceptions: 1) about “corporeality”, 2) about christianization of all areas of a human’s life. The article covers Bukharev’s correspondence to deacon A. A. Lebedev, his follower, in which the archimandrite explained his ideas and statements. The correspondence had an important meaning because of publishing in an academic journal and the infl uence on a liberal clergy over six months before the revolution. The supplementary sources is the not published letters of archpriest A. Ust`inskiy, Bukharev’s follower supporting the views of New-Christians. Also the author uses some articles of Bukharev.

The attempt to legalize the church administration of the Leningrad’s diocese in 1926 as the prehistory of the “josephite-alexis” division

The article deals with the failed attempt to organize and legalize the Leningrad’s diocesan administration of the Russian Orthodox Church in 1926. At the suggestion of OGPU the group of Leningrad’s clergy has propounded legalization. Bishop Alexius (Simanskiy) became the leader of the group in the summer of 1926. The initiative group’s activity aroused suspicion of the part of the Leningrad clergy assuring a top church management to transfer bishop Alexey to another diocese and to appoint Joseph (Petrovyh) to be a Leningrad metropolitan. The conflict situation was complicated by the provocative politics of a state authority. It prevented metropolitan Joseph from carrying out his duties of ruling archbishop and, on the contrary, permitted the initiative group to hold a meeting led by bishop (archbishop) Alexius. All attempts of church workers to find the unconflicted way out were unsuccessful. The author analyses arguments of supporters and opponents of the diocesan legalization, estimates the correlation between personal and based on principles motives. He investigates the position of church authority represented by metropolitan Sergey (Stragorodskiy). The author considers either side was not unjust one in the Leningrad church collision in 1926. Only the politics of the soviet power that used legalization as the demoralization’s instrument of the Church was defi nitely malicious.

The author publishes the documents that were found in the Patriarch Tikhon’s case. They covers the incident in the Vladimir diocese in spring of 1918 when priest Nikolas Kljucharev has read messages of His Holiness the Patriarch Tikhon about the Brest peace in one of diocese churches. The incident provoked indignation of representatives of a local soldiers’ organization. They approved the resolution of the protest full of threats. The answer of the priest caused more indignation. The group arming with rifl es appeared in the country for enlisting parishioners’ support and arresting priest Nikolay and then shooting him. But parishioners closed ranks for protecting the priest that showed himself as the true Christian and the worthy pastor in this case.
