This research deals with the participation of bishop Grigory in the organization of the parishes of Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia on the territory of Moscow Patriarchate at the beginning of the 90s of the 20th century. Bishop Grigory was one of the leaders who insisted on archimandrite Valentin Rusantsov’s consecration, and later he supported the idea of giving independence to those parishes. After the separation of Russian parishes from Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, bishop Grigory became the main apologist of this structure.

One of the most important questions of the religious-philosophical anthropological concept of S.L. Franck are questions about the close relationship between man and God, about sin and suffering, and about the definition of the boundaries of his freedom. In the definition of freedom and its main points, it proceeds not only from Western philosophical thought, but also from the anthropological views and ideas of F. M. Dostoevsky. According to Frank, as in Dostoevsky, the disclosure of the fullness of freedom in man is interconnected with the doctrine of human freedom as self-determination in good and in God, accepting sufering as an indispensable component in his salvation. The article is devoted to the comparison of the basic anthropological and personality concepts, as well as the idea of freedom and its characteristics in the works and works of both thinkers, in order to trace the continuity of Dostoevsky’s tradition with Frank in the framework of his anthropology and personalism in order to prove that for him human freedom and self-Man is an absolute value, his anthropology can be viewed in the context of his philosophy of unity and not contradict it.

This paper makes public the letters of archpriest Georgy Grabbe (later bishop Grigory 1902–1995), the long-term ruler of the Synodal offi ce of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad. The letters are addressed to Grand Duke Vladimir Kirillovich, who in 1938 assumed the duties of the head of the Russian imperial house. The authorities of the Russian Church Abroad were playing with the idea of a monarchy, but they did not dare to directly support any of the branches of Romanov dynasty. In this regard, the correspondence of archpriest George, who was a supporter of Vladimir Kirillovich, is of great interest. At the same time, it is necessary to take into account the bias of the author of these letters. Thus, archpriest George explains in his own way the reasons why the Russian Church Abroad did not introduce the commemoration of Grand Duke Kirill Vladimirovich in the churches of Russian emigration. Archpriest George Grabbe also writes about the reasons why the Russian Church Abroad cannot take the initiative to proclaim Vladimir Kirillovich Emperor. It contains important information about the attitude of the Russian Church Abroad to the morganatic marriage of Grand Duke with Leonida Georgievna Bagration-Mukhranskaya. Several documents deal with the problems of Russian refugees after World War II, the problems of the fl ock and parishes, which Vladimir Kirillovich tried to help. The letters contain information regarding the relocation of Russian refugees to South America. Many of the published materials shed light for the fi rst time on events that were not refl ected in the offi cial documents of the Russian Church Abroad.

This article makes public letters of Bishop Grigoriy (Grabbe; prior to 1979, protopresbyter Georgiy). The author of these letters was for several decades secretary of the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad and Ruler of the affairs of the Synodal offi ce of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad. In the 1960s — early 1980s, he had a great power that sometimes exceeded the power of the Chairman of the Synod of bishops, Metropolitan Filaret (Voznesensky). The recipient of the letters is Grand Prince Kirill Vladimirovich Romanov. Although in 1939, the Russian Church Abroad actually recognised this person as the spiritual leader of the future free Russia, in the post-war years the attitude to him deteriorated. The correspondence was conducted against the background of protests by representatives of the house of the Romanovs, who did not agree with Vladimir Kirillovich’s claims to the throne. The author of the letters, being a supporter of Vladimir Kirillovich, tried to support him. The correspondence is also interesting because it refl ects important events in the life of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad in those years. This is the preparation of the canonisation of new martyrs and confessors of Russia, the scandalous marriage that Revd. Grabbe performed on M. Golenevsky, calling him Tsarevich Alexei, and internal confl icts within the Russian Church Abroad. The correspondence refl ected Bishop Grigoriy’s attitude to the changes in the home country in the late 1980s and early 1990s, to Vladimir Kirillovich’s trip to the Soviet Union and his meeting with Patriarch Alexy II.
