This article describes a few aspects of the life and work of Feodor Golubinsky, a noted professor of philosophy of the Moscow Theological Academy of the first half of the nineteenth century. It analyses the context of the time in which he lived and in which he formulated his philosophical and theological views, as well as Golubinsky’s thoughts on masonry and the mystical tradition. Finally Golubinsky’s opinion of the thought of F. Sidonsky and N. P. Gilyarov-Platonov is compared with that of Metropolitan Philaret (Drozdov).

This article attempts to deal with the last phase of the life and work of Auguste Conte, the founder of the philosophy of positivism. The appearance and development of this type of philosophy were conditioned by the new waves of thought which dominated European philosophy during the nineteenth century. It was believed that faith in a scientific method would guarantee the success of any kind of scientific endeavor. Conte developed his idea of a three level intellectual evolution from notions which had already been posited by Saint-Simon. According to this ideology, man begins to mature when he begins to abandon his childish and immature notions about the world, or in other words, his religious-mystical preoccupations. Eventually he becomes an adult and begins to discover a type of God in himself. But in this way, positivism itself begins to develop its own religious and mystical traits while at the same time conducting a fierce battle with a religious conception of the world. These ideas come especially to the fore in the later works of Conte. In these works, the philosopher stipulates that although sociology is at the absolute pinnacle of the sciences, there is yet another level, still higher than all these - and that is the domain of the so-called religion of mankind.

Published sermons of martyr Thaddaeus (Uspensky), the archbishop of the Tver diocese, were preached at churches of Zhitomir, Astrakhan and, mainly, Saratov in the 1920 th. The texts of sermons were found in the archival case of layman A.A. Solovev. The historical significance of the sermons is the coverage of the uninvestigated period of holy hierarch’s service in the Saratov diocese.

The author examines the relationship between scientific and theological components in a selection of the works of well-known Biblical scholars active at the Kiev Theological Academy around the turn of the nineteenth century and the begin ning of the twentieth. Among them figure the names of F. J. Pokrovsky, V. P. Rybinsky, D. I. Bogdashevsky, and Father A. A. Glagolev. The work of these experts has been little studied until today. The spiritual, intellectual, and ideological context of the time has been taken into account by the author. The author of this article pays special attention to the ideological background surrounding the polemic between Russian Orthodox biblical scholars and those proponents of the negative school of biblical exegesis. The focus is on several key elements of understanding the Bible, the research and exposition of biblical history, as well as points of dogmatic and moral import stemming from an interpretation of the scriptures. The author demonstrates that the position of the Kievan biblical scholars was apologetic, contrasting the theological and scientific schools against the background of a more than positivistic understanding of history and the Bible seen as the sacred scripture of the Church. In this way, they contributed to academic research, and the way of teaching the scriptures of the schools, as well as the exposition of the scriptures for the purpose of dogmatic and moral enlightenment. At the same time, they began the process of working towards a synthesis as an approach for further scientific and theological research. Important for the continuing development of Russian Orthodox biblical studies during the twentieth century was finding a balance between Orthodox biblical apologetics and scientific thought . This attempt at re-discovering and reconstructing the apologetic atmosphere of the Kievan biblical scholars was made possible through a combination of several factors — one of the most important being the handing down of their methods by teachers to their students. Thus we can have an idea of the importance which these teachers assigned above all to their own personal faith, as well as to their methodological and hermeneutic concerns. The author has attempted to elucidate the work of these biblical apologists against the general cultural and religious background of the Russian Empire of the time as well as the specific atmosphere particular to Kiev. Through a thorough analysis of their work, we are able today to make use of their experience in biblical apologetics to solve contemporary problems of teaching and explaining to students the Sacred Scriptures.

The article deals with the origins and particular development of providentsialistskoy ideas of education in domestic pedagogical thought XI — the beginnings of XXI centuries. The author explores the idea of providentsialistskuyu education, on the one hand, as a phenomenon associated with the notions of Christianity, on the other — both formed the phenomenon of educational thought, associated with global social and spiritual processes. Particular attention is drawn to the relationship and relevance of pedagogical constructs and providentsialistskih provisions. The author concludes that as a result of a deep and broad development of ideas providentsialistskoy education in this domestic pedagogical thought emerged the concept of providential oriented education.

During an ongoing reform of parish staff led by the Church authorities of the Russian Orthodox Church, new positions in parishes are establishing, that of religious educator (catechist), social worker and youth worker. The principal object of this activation of parish life through structural changes is transforming parishes into missionary centers. Nevertheless, not always and not everywhere this initiative is welcomed enthusiastically or results in intensification of social, missionary and youth activities. In fact, many parishes followed the requisitions only nominally. In that context, it is only logical to consider the experience of the Catholic Church, where laypersons over half a century are holding established positions in parishes, including posts with the same responsibilities. However, if in the Russian Church the attempts to involve laypersons in parish work and emerge their role are not only conditioned but also motivated mostly by purely practical reasons, the idea of Church ministry of laypersons in the Catholic Church is based on profound theological foundations. The author sets forth premises of establishment of the parish positions for laypeople in the Catholic Church, introduced mainly at Vatican II. For this, he considers the change in expressing the idea of hierarchical structure of the Church, the council’s teaching on Church ministry and relationship between priests and laity. As an example of the practical realization of these theological premises, the author cites the German Catholic Church, where due to limited number of priests lay activity in parishes is widely spread and is quite versatile

The author proposes historical, philosophical and theological commentary to a certain part of the Lections on metaphysics and conceptual theology composed by Feodor Golubinsky, a noted Professor of philosophy of the Moscow Theological Academy of the first half of the nineteenth century. Particular attention is paid to the Golubinsky’s opinion of metaphysics, philosophical tasks, correlation of Providence and human will, Gregory Palamas’ teaching. Critical commentary of Golubinsky’s lections made by Professor N. Gavryushin is involved as a special view. Analysis of the lections abstract, archive heritage of Golubinsky and historical context let the author to conclude that the positive attitude towards Golubinsky’s philosophy and orthodox convictions, which took place in his contemporary philosophical environment (G. Shpet, V. Zenkovsky), looks sufficient. Golubinsky’s opinion in the appraisal of Wolffianism and P. Bayle’s view on the question of free will agrees with the Patristic tradition, and in theological issues covered in his lections including those of Gregory Palamas’ teaching, coincides with the Palamite theology. Author also attends the question of correlation of the Christian faith and the free philosophic thinking touched upon by N. Gavriushin in his critics of Golubinsky’s lections. In this theme author analyzes many questions: conception of a free thinking, Golubinsky’s view on competence differentiation of theology and philosophy, and on relationship between theology and philosophy. In the article the problem of the organization of moral education of school students on the basis of traditional values in the conditions of inclusive school is reviewed. The author shows that the problem of training of children with special educational needs becomes one of the major tendencies and problems of our society. Global experience testifies that the optimal response to this problem is the creation of an inclusive education system. In turn, the creation of an inclusive education system demands organizing of a whole series of social and pedagogical environment. The most important of them is the life system of moral education which is directed on formation of spiritual and moral qualities all subjects of education: students, teachers, parents. Based on the theoretical works of both of foreign, and Russian scientists, own pedagogical experience, the author shows that the most effective solution of problem of creation of the system of spiritual and moral education is in using of traditional spiritual and moral values. The problem of sources for formation and development of professional and pedagogical consciousness and its semantic content is updated in the article. The author proves the urgency of the contemporary pedagogical appeal to Christian anthropological patristic heritage, to the experience of spiritual personal growth because that is patristic heritage which consists of both understanding and prophetic attitude to future. The phenomena composing content and mechanisms of evaluating person’s soul birth and transformation and his spiritual awakening in the process of upbringing are revealed in the article. The role of upbringing under conditions of post-modernistic values statement, of educational commercialization is viewed. Consequences of transformation of knowledge and education into a commodity for psychological and spiritual health of a person being developed are examined. Basing on the methodology of a holistic systematic and pragmatic approach to the person’s development, his personal and spiritual ascension the author makes a conclusion that contemporary teaching practice and Pedagogy as a science and a form of art responsible for personal education should be “lighted” with cultural and human ideas and focused on the utmost top meaning of human existence. The analysis of ecclesiastical literature shows that human knowledge without divine enlightenment is nothing but rationalism. If science helps to personal enlightening it is not simply able but should be used in our spiritual life. It is underlined in the article that the urgent problem of the contemporary Pedagogy is that of working out an adequate conception of moral education and personal development, his internal education, soul education, spiritual transformation.

The article covers the post-revolutionary period of the Valaam metochion’s story in Moscow. The author describes the political situation accompanying the negotiations between employees of the Justice’s Commissariat (Narkomjust) and of the Moscow Soviet concerning the liquidation of the church and the chapel of the Valaam metochion. She analyzes documents and correspondence between the parish council and the Father superior of the Valaam monastery, clarifies some facts of the Moscow Residence’s life and monks. The special significance has the analysis of sources of several archives —domestic (GARF, CIAM, CGAMO) and of Finland (the Archive of the Novovalaamsky monastery). The author drawn parallels between the events, mentioned in letters and in documents, clarifies the equivocal roles, that some monks played, who were earlier been considered as defenders of Orthodoxy and fighters against Renovationism. The author investigates the reason why the metochion was remained working whereas many churches and monasteries in Moscow were being closed. She considers the government’s protection of Finland did not play the big role in a Moscow Residence’s protection. The archival documents were attached to the article. They concern the period 1918– 1923. That is correspondence between employees of Narkomjust and Moscow Soviet about the metochion’s destiny, «The Writ of Protection» that was given by the Finnish mission, and the monk’s letter to the Valaam Abbot in which he slandered the chief of the Moscow metochion et al.

The article deals with the problem of the formation of youthful self-government in the context of the time. A thoughtful analysis ofthe relevant processes in the Russian education in the second half of XIX — early XX centuries, can promote the mainstreaming of lessons in this complex a saturated historical period building ideas and approaches to the development of citizens Danske activity of students. The paper examines the main stages of self-government youth. The sixteenth century — the beginning of a samopravleniya associated with the name Valentine Trontsendorfa, a German teacher who organized a school republic. In the eighteenth century in Switzerland Martin Plante founded the seminary, which were chosen by the general meetings of the principal organs of the school authorities. In 1774, in Dessau Basedow has developed an educational project «Filantropin». In 1784, Salzman, one of the followers of Graves, opened in Shnepfentale school, which also introduces an element of self-government. A new development in his school was pay students who occupied the school office. In the nineteenth century, interesting thoughts about the development of student self-government expressed a French philosopher, sociologist Charles Fourier, the German philosopher Fichte and social activist. Enough has been widely known experience of self-government in American schools skih Lah — «urban school system» (school-city-sistem). In the twentieth century, the elements of self-administered in schools in Switzerland, France, England, the United States of America. In Russia the principles of self-control do not cause rejection.

Purpose — to investigate a theoretical and methodological, historical and pedagogical key interpretation of category of «the virtuous life» of the religious and educational literature of our country from the second half of the XIX century to the beginning of the XX century. Special attention is given to consideration of the role and place of Christian faith in the formation of man on the path of a virtuous life, building upon the universal values of Goodness, Truth and Beauty. The concept of integrity of the world historical and pedagogical process as well as civilizational, anthropological, genetic, "germenevtichesky", scientific and sociostructural made approaches formed methodological basis of research. Approaches offered by the author and conclusions are notable for scientific novelty which can be detected in identification and the characteristics of pedagogical aspect of category of «the virtuous life» of the religious and educational literature of our country from the second half of the XIX century to the beginning of the XX century, in justification of specifics of ethical and pedagogical understanding of category of «the virtuous life» from ontology positions which expand scientific ideas of the methodological bases of Pedagogics. The article concludes that the that the purport of interpretations of category of «the virtuous life» of the religious and educational literature of our country from the second half of the XIX century to the beginning of the XX century heavily influenced by the Orthodox ethical tradition connected with the conduct of a person socially encourages virtuous life. The category of «the virtuous life» of the religious and educational literature of our country from the second half of the XIX century to the beginning of the XX century is presented as a true pedagogical concepts of loyalty and educational practice. Therefore, this category of this period should be seen as closely associated with a particular social and spiritual processes of pedagogical culture phenomenon. In this article the history of Russian orthodox churches in Switzerland is considered together with the history of Russian local colonies. Author exposes thoroughly the external context and internal conditions, in which two main church buildings — the Exaltation of the Cross church in Geneva and the St. Barbara church in Vevey — were founded and raised. These two churches remained up to nowadays the only in Switzerland, placed in the building, which were from the very beginning constructed as russian orthodox churches.

This paper discusses the conception of leisure on the basis of the historical and philosophical approach to derive the following conclusions. In antiquity, the conception of leisure was tightly connected with school. Educational activities at school were aimed at developing personality of each student. This fueled division of society into two social groups - educated people with much leisure time and those people who were almost always busy working. From the Christian pedagogical paradigm perspective, human life as a whole including leisure is considered the way of finding freedom in Christ. In this regard, during the Patriarchal and Agricultural periods of the domestic society development, the spiritual component prevailed in the choice of leisure activities and utilization of leisure time. In the early years of capitalism, an urban proletarian enjoyed some leisure time on a limited and occasional basis. From the spiritual and moral perspective, such leisure essentially was rooted in the utilitarian «Geneva conceptions.» In the former Soviet Union, during the years of socialism build-up, the division between work time and leisure time became strongly apparent. This provided a systematic basis for moral development of school children's personality on grounds of the atheist approach to pedagogy of children. Postmodern societies observed the reversal in the relationship between leisure and work towards the dominance of leisure with respect to formation of human personality. This change has raised questions to teachers about how to further develop the leisure pedagogy from the perspective of the spiritual and moral development of human personality. To attempt to identify ways to address these questions, the paper further discusses activities of the Faculty of Pedagogy of St. Tikhon Orthodox University (Moscow) at the Children's Health and Wellness Center of the city of Anapa (Krasnodar Region)

Home study this problem was initiated in our paper «The problem of civic education in Russian pedagogy and school in the late nineteenth — early twentieth centuries», continued — in the «Influence of pedagogical factors on civic participation of schoolchildren in Russia in the second half of the nineteenth — early twentieth centuries». The methodological basis of general scientific principles are the development , integrity , system , determinism , historical and logical unity in the study of pedagogical phenomena provision of educational anthropology of education as a social and cultural phenomenon , cultural- historical and anthropological approaches to the study of educational and socio-educational processes. In the late XIX — early XX centuries russian pedagogical thought and practice intensively enriched by the ideas of the «new» foreign pedagogy —treatment to the purpose, principles and means of civic education sub- rising generation. By L. Gurlitt, E. Demolen, John Dewey , G. Kershenshteyner , P. Natorp, F. Forster, A. Ferrier, Art. Hall, E. Ertl become the property of the teaching community in Russia, argued about the purpose of civic education as the formation of the children of solidarity and mutual responsibility , a sense of respect for the rule of law and public order, the ability to sacrifice their own interests for the benefit of the whole, a willingness to serve social ideals and love for the Fatherland. Appeal to foreign ideas «new» pedagogy showed that the center of education, in general, the work of the school , the child should be with the features of inner peace, uniqueness, individuality of thought. This approach therefore updated the task of educating the «new man». It should be a creative personality, initiative, with the development of the initiative. The ideas of the «new» pedagogy revolved around the fact that people will be the mind, intellect, labor, solidarity with others to strengthen the power of the state. In general education should approximate the young man back to life, to strengthen the appointment of a person in accordance with the needs of the state. As a principled reason the process of civic education were considered the principles of faith in the natural forces of the child, united and work of the school. Following the European and U. S. domestic counterparts teachers recognized the importance of such means of civic education as joint children's games, a creative initiative pupils, pupils' self-government, insisted on their wide application in educational practice.

The Chronology of the Renovationist «Revolution» in the Russian Church in May, 1922 according to New Archival Documents S.N. Ivanov The article covers the events of the beginning of the Renovationist schism in the Russian Orthodox Church, in particular —the attempt of the clergy’s group which has been loyal to the Soviet authorities to assume the higher power of the Church in May, 1922. The author supplemented the chronology of Renovationist schism with new archival documents which open the circumstances of negotiations between future dissenters and the members of an oversight body on the eve of meetings with Patriarch Tikhon at the Troitsk town residence in Moscow. Results of the research scientifi cally proved the assumption the Bolshevik authorities have used property. Earlier there was only the supposition of the church-historical researchers relying on the detected cost estimate of the withdrawal’s company of a Church property. For organizing the church division the Political bureau of Central Committee RKP (b) relied on the disagreements of clergy concerning the confi scation. The facts found out by the author clarifi ed the understanding of the true motives of loud statements about «the Famine Relief». The story of May events recreated in the article allows drawing more detailed conclusions about the decisions accepting by the Patriarch in the fi eld of the higher church management in this period. Reasonableness, compliance with the decrees of the Higher Church Management and the aspiration to benefi t the Church has distinguished the position of St. Patriarch Tikhon. the Moscow tribunal’s sentence upon 11 persons (including 8 priests) to be shot, for pressure, both on St. Patriarch Tikhon, and on the Revivalists with a view of the control over them. The author proves that the schism’s leaders, agitating voluntary for handing over divine service vessels to the Bolshevik commissions of Famine Relief, have received monetary compensation of state bodies for the “work” on the confi scation of Church

The article features an analysis of the nature and dynamic of church-state relations in Estonia during the first years following its integration into the USSR. In 1944 the religious situation in the republic was characterized by a number of distinctive attributes. The local population, which had lived prior to the accession of the Baltics to the USSR in 1944 in an atmosphere of relative religious freedom, presented the Soviet authorities with a new phenomenon that would have to be reckoned with. The Plenipotentiaries for Estonia appointed by the Council on ROC Affairs at the USSR Council of Ministers were able to convince their superiors of the need to tread carefully in light of the local specifics. The article deals with an analysis of the distinctive features of the Estonian Orthodox Church. As a secondary denomination in the region, it felt the powerful influence of Lutheran customs and rites. The ethnic heterogeneity of the fold and pronounced language barrier determined the choice of candidacy for the ruling eparchy. The Estonian diocese was rather well endowed with cathedrals, meaning that the main problem of church life in the USSR since the easing of persecution in 1944-1947 - the opening of new parishes - was not an issue in Estonia. On the whole, the church-state relations that dominated the republic in 1944-1947 were quite stable, just as they were around the country; moreover, they were typified by a cautious policy on the part of the Soviet authorities. In 1948-1949 the situation began to deteriorate across the country and Estonia was no exception. The difference was in the methods used: in Estonia, the decision was made to fight the Church and its clergy primarily through collectivization, which was actively pursued in the Baltics beginning in the early 1950s. Collectivization left rural parishes and their clergy in dire straits, and religious life in the countryside began to wane. Yet, the arrival from the central regions of the USSR of a Russian-speaking population tasked with elevating the republic’s industrial base resulted in a revitalization of church life in the cities where it was stationed, causing tremendous alarm at the Council on ROC Affairs. As a consequence, Estonian orthodoxy began to gradually change its ethic composition. The nationwide trend towards the ramping-up of religious persecution, begun in the early 1950s, made its way to Estonia. The crackdown included the arrest of clergy, the closure of cathedrals, and even a campaign to close Pühtitsa Convent. Religious pilgrims from neighboring USSR republics began converging on the monastery - to the great consternation of the central authorities. Thanks to their well-considered, systematic actions, the ruling Estonian eparchy managed to keep church life in the republic alive, yet, beginning in the early 1950s, church-state relations within the territory of Estonia were increasingly marked by nationwide trends.

The «Resurrection» image (Anastasis) appears in manuscript illustrations of the IX–XIVth centuries, Gospels (Lectionarier) and on the margins of Psalters. The article examines the position of these images in the manuscripts and their relation to the verses in the Psalms. The images drawn are defined as «Ressurection». These observations, yet again, confirm the image's exclusively Easter meaning.

This article considers the dating a portal of the Romanesque period located within the French province of Alsace. Specifically in relation to the role of geopolitical factors in the dating process given the lack of documentary evidence relating to monumental sculpture of this era. Considering the monument in the light of local geopolitical realities helps to displace the existing dating and correlates with the European trends in sculpture of the early 13th century. As an additional element of stylistic analysis geopolitical context opens up the possibility of a new view of both the historical and artistic value of the monument.

The main problem of this essay is a place of Christian psychology in the system of psychological knowledge. The author emphasizes necessity of diversifi cation in psychological knowledge. Psychology of psychics is a studying of becoming one or another psychical form. Psychology of a human is a studying established psychical forms, ‘living their own lives’ in our consciousness. The author purposes a distinction between three different logics of investigation and description of its results. The first logics deals with objective ignorance, the second — with phenomena formation ignorance, the third — with phenomena’s purpose ignorance. Dr. Slobodchikov urges researchers and practicing psychologists and teachers to move from the first logic to the third, to work not on the edge of body and soul, but on the edge of soul and spirit. The author states a necessity for that to harmonize Christian, psychological and pedagogical anthropology and following anthropological paradigm in the humanities, differ one from another three types of psychological knowledge: psychology of psychics, psychology of human and orthodox (Christian) — way psychology.

The artiсle deals with the tradition of the Apostles’ Creed illustrations - which are represented in miniatures in Western manuscripts IX-XV c. and engravings XV-XVII c. Different types of visual presentation are distinguished. First of all, the miniatures illustrate the Creed as a whole (the Utrecht Psalter and its copy, St. Edwin Psalter). Next appears another type of representation, when separate dogma is illustrated. Singular solution is represented in the Blokbuch from Heidelberg University, which contains several pages of the Creed illustration. A new milestone in the further development of Creed illustrations is connected with book-printing and the evolution of engravings. We see this type of representation in the incunabula of Konrad Dinkmut, Ulm (1485). In the «Erklerung der zwölf Artickel des Cristenlichen gelaubens» each page is connected not with the dogma, but with the formula of Creed. Engravings of Jacob Cornelisz van Oostsanen, 1512, incorporate two different images, which refer to different dogmas, but one formula. This similar type of representation is found in the engravings pattern by Martin de Vos and engravings by Adrian Collaert. They became famous in Russia as a part of “Theatrum Biblicum”, edited by Claes Jansz Visscher-Piscator. The analysis of this tradition refers not only to the study of West European art history, but also to the «Creed» iconography in Russia.

This article examines the iconography of The Descent into Hell in Western European engravings, as well as book illustrations оf XV-XVIII centuries. We consider the development of the iconography associated with the author's variations, the Italian infl uence, or the new theological attitudes that have emerged in the Western Christian theology. The image “Descent into Hell” can be found throughout the work of many great artists. Dürer creates three engravings on the subject. It was also portrayed by Martin Schöngauer, Albrecht Altdorfer and Pieter Breugel the Elder. The fact that this image appears in the composition of cycles at this time is of particular importance. There are also The Passions of Christ, The Seven Virtues and illustrations of the Apostolic Creed. The image carries its specific features according to the cycle. It reaches the peak of its expressiveness as a part of depicting of the Passions of Christ. Breugel, for instance, brings into it numerous allegories. Being a representation of the dogma of the Apostolic Creed, it finds itself in a new surrounding. In book illustrations, the Creed is pictured not as a separate dogma, but as a whole formula. The fifth formula names not only the Descent, but also the Resurrection: a quote. That is why the Descent is originally positioned next to the Resurrection. In the engraving by Jacob Cornelisz van Oostsanen, these two images are incorporated into one. Similar example can be observed in the engravings by Johann Sadeler and Adrian Kollaert, depicting the works of Martin de Vos. The article explores the issue of the interrelation between the Russian and the Finnish Orthodox Churches. In 1957 the Moscow Patriarchy has offi cial recognized the Orthodox Archbishopric of Finland under the Constantinople Patriarchy’s jurisdiction and the problem of Finnish-Russian church relations ceased to be the subject of serious investigations. This situation caused the change of relation towards the Russian period in the history of the Finnish Orthodox Church. The author draws attention to constitutive documents’ formulations concerning the canonical status of the Finnish Orthodox Church in the context of historical events. She attracts attention to missed earlier, owing to ideological and political restrictions, the process’s details of autonomism of the Finnish diocese, the part of the Russian Church previous to 1921. In 2013 the Orthodox Archbishopric of Finland has solemnly celebrated the 90 anniversary of the autonomy. This implies the Russian period of the Finnish Orthodox Church has been forgotten. But this is important to hold the remembrance about that time in the historical memory by orthodox Finns because of the valuable experience of a church life.

The authors of the article identified and described the fundamental theoretical and methodological orientations of education models in the USA, England, Canada and Australia. Four basic areas of values (rational, evolving, intuitive and social) articulated in the writings of scholars in these countries were identified by the authors of the article as the fundamental theoretical and methodological orientations of the education models. The authors of the article described these values in the context of the books written by the philosopher John Bordley Rawls («A Theory of Justice»), psychologists Lawrence Kohlberg («The development of orientations toward a moral order») and Milton Rokeach («Theory of Values»), as well as the sociologist Aaron Wildavsky («Cultural Theory»). The article examined the key value systems of education models in each of the above areas. The authors argued and justified the idea that the education, based on all of these values, in general, can be considered as liberal education.

Financial and politics aspects of the realization of the church values seized in 1922 under the pretext of rendering assistance to the starving people are analyzed in the article. Author examines relationship between People’s Commissariat for Finance and three organizations of the all-Russian C.E.C. in which possession were the seized values. The conducted study gives grounds to assert that no sales of the church values abroad for purchase of bread for starving people were carried out and the fight against famine and it’s consequences was waged with the funds of the state Treasury. The seizure of the values from the churches in 1922 lasted too long time. The concentration of the values in Moscow took several years. Having “realized” values authorities initially announced preliminary and demonstrative purchase of the food at a very small amount — 1 million of gold rubles. Then the sale of the church values for soviet depreciated rubles made by the Central Committee for Famine Relief of the all-Russian С.E.C. to Narcomfi n according to agreement of 29 July 1922 was likewise presented by the soviet leaders. The article describes the history of the fruitless efforts undertaken by the members of Pomgol CC to obtain the gold credits, and points out more correct official cost of the seized values. As an important conclusion the author asserts that the policy of double standards pursued by the Narkomfin in the assessment of the seized church property let the financial department under the pretext of ‘’famine relief’’ get a signifi cant profi t.

This article offers support the claim expense seized in 1922 under the slogan of helping the starving of church property in the minting of coins in connection with the monetary reform. It is primarily a silver, whose share in the value of the selected property in the existing temples was 86 percent. Need dragmetalah as the reform of the circulation of money there, regardless of the problem of hunger 1921–1922 and determined refusal of the Bolshevik leaders from the course on monetary economy in the post-war chaos. Evidence for the main thesis of the article served as the internal reports of structural divisions of People’s Commissariat of Finance and the People’s Commissariat of Workers ‘and Peasants’ Inspection, which indicated that in the period of the campaign for the withdrawal and delivery of church property in the state store, recently seen as the main source of silver for coinage on Petrograd Mint. Information about church silver was present in the reports to send to the metal from Gokhran Mint statements and the amount of metal intended for coinage. Demand for silver for the execution of production programs for minting exceed the available reserves of the metal, which resulted in the purchase of silver on foreign markets and buying coins Imperial coinage in the population of the country. Silver in donations and reform played a role supportive factor for strengthening confidence in the paper currency treasury.

The article is devoted to Bolshevik state campaign of seizing church reaches in Donetsk region. The article describes arrangement and implementation stages of the campaign, the attitude of faithful people and clergy towards the campaign, etc. The author illustrated that local authorities presented the campaign as will of the Soviet people, whilst in reality it met the resistance of both clergy and laity. The author believes that specific features of the campaign were to a large extent defined by the fact that there were very few churches in industrial Donetsk region. Due to this fact church reaches were sometimes seized more than once. Sometimes this resulted in complete devastation of churches. In the author’s opinion the unwillingness of the local authorities to permit laymen buy out church reaches was caused by the same reason.

The paper concerns developing prerequisites for economic consciousness in children of dysfunctional families. It is demonstrated that in primary school children dysfunctional family promotes deformations in their economic consciousness prerequisites. Such children have delayed formation of their basic economic concepts, are more inclined to seek maximum self-interest to the detriment of cooperative principle. The paper proposes problems, principles, steps, methods and techniques for psychocorrection of primary school children in order to develop prerequisites for economic consciousness in such children. The developed program has been proven to be effi cient in the following ways: promoting expansion of the set of basic economic concepts in children, preparing children to learn higher level moral convictions, inviting children to be cooperative with others.

The text of the article is associated with well-known in the history of the phenomena of russophilism a and rusofobstvo in Bulgaria in the nineteenth century. For complex historical background, rich in political surprises, these two opposite phenomena represented in the sayings and poems of the representatives of the Bulgarian national-minded intellectuals — him P., Rakowski, Z. Stoyanov, L. Karavelov, I. Vazov. Some of them were afraid of turning Bulgaria into a Russian province, others saw in the mighty Orthodox and Slavic Russia salvation of his homeland, his people. Still others saw the future of their country in Alliance with the Ottoman Empire and the creation of a dual Turkish-Bulgarian monarchy. Was observed and the change in its position as L. Karavelov underlining in his lines fortress of the Russian-Bulgarian friendship. Marked and attitude of Russian thought through reflections of a Russian diplomat, philosof, and publicist Konstantin Nikolaevich Leontiev to Bulgaria, the Russian-Bulgarian relations, which seemed to him not unlike many of his contemporaries, rainbow. Considerable attention is paid to the «troubled» by many parameters time when, after the Russo-Turkish war of 1877–1878 signifi cant part of the Bulgarian lands had the opportunity to form their own state in the form of a de facto independent from the Ottoman Empire Bulgarian principalities, in which the processes of russophilism and rusofobstvo not only not subsided, but has been further aggravation, especially after accomplished without the knowledge of Russia, the unification of Principality of Bulgaria with southern Bulgaria, not having statehood. The article discusses the post-war period in the history of the Pühtitsa Uspensky Convent (of Dormition). Founded in the late 19th century in the area where the icon of Dormition of Our Lady had traditionally been venerated, the convent stayed open through its entire history. The convent experienced many hardships during both World Wars, but the period discussed in the article was perhaps the most difficult of all for the convent. Years of 1944–1955 were for the sisters of the convent the years of deprivation and famine, and lack of bare necessities of life. Those difficulties have been deliberately brought on by the authorities.The Soviet leaders, trying to maintain the myth of there being no persecution of the faithful in Russia in the eyes of the international community, chose to destroy gradually all convents and monasteries in the USSR. Archival materials used to write this article show that high taxes and incredible amounts of agricultural products that the convent was forced to cede for the state, as well as appropriation of farmland and buildings and measures undertaken to prevent young novices from entering the convent made the existence of the convent extremely difficult. The government also prohibited pilgrims to stay at the convent for more than 1 or 2 days. These measures deprived the convent of most income and assistance that the sisters needed.A campaign was instigated by the authorities to discredit the convent, but their eff orts were in vain due to a diplomatic stand of the ruling bishop Roman (Tang) and Archimandrite Pimen (Izvekov), the future Patriarch Pimen.The convent survived despite all the measures undertaken by the authorities. The Church Relations Council under the Soviet Cabinet failed to merge the Pühtitsa convent with the convents in Riga or Vilnius, as had been originally intended. In these years of hardship, the ruling bishops Roman (Tang), Ioann (Alexeev) and Mother Superior Rafaila (Migacheva) provided any kind ofsupport for the convent. The convent received money; several dozens new novices were admitted, and the situation changed considerably for the better. It seemed that the most diffi cult period was over. However, in 1959 the USSR authorities decided to close down all the monasteries. Archival materials show how thoroughly planned and carefully carried out those activities were.In 1961 a decision was made to close down the Pühtitsa Convent. It was at that time that Bishop Alexey (Ridiger), the future Patriarch Alexey II, was appointed head of the Estonian eparchy. The bishop had had experience of working for the Department of External Church Relations (DECR) of the Moscow Patriarchate, and perhaps it was this experience, that suggested to him the way to save the convent. The bishop brought several foreign delegations to Pühtitsa, and some articles about the convent appeared in foreign press.In these circumstances, the authorities did not dare to close the convent. Subsequently, several sisters from the convent headed newly created convents all across Russia, passing them on the tradition of Orthodox monastic life.

The article is devoted to the activities of religious associations in the territory occupied by Stalin area. In 1942 in the region there were two diocesan administration: Yenakiyevo (headed by Archpriest Arseny Knyshev) — in the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan Alexy (Gromadsky) and Makeyevka (headed by Archpriest Peter Kachevsky) is subordinate to the bishop of Taganrog Joseph (Chernoff). But by September 1943, the area was open 233 churches and prayer houses. The author believes that, despite the fact that the region has been turned into a military zone, the occupiers carried out propaganda of avtokefalizm. But the real basis for action in the field of UAOC was not. In this connection, for the separation of believers, the invaders could use group loannite stefanovtsev and sects.

The author examines some peculiarities of the liturgical dialogues before anaphora and Communion in the ‘Testament of our Lord’. The main peculiarity of the former is the exclamation ‘Sanctifications in the holies’ ( ) which may correspond to cγιασμοL tν τοTς cγίοις of the original Greek text. It is shown that this exclamation, reminding the exclamation ‘Holy things for the holy’ which is an essential element of the Eastern eucharistic liturgies beginning from the 4th century, is an allusion to the trisagion of Isaiah 6:3 (Sanctus). The conjecture is put forward that it was transferred from the dialogue before Communion where the words ‘Holy things for the holy’ are absent. Such a transfer could be possible if the compiler was familiar with the introductory dialogues containing warnings against unworthy participation in the Eucharist, i.e. carr ying the same meaning as the exclamation ‘Holy things for the holy’. It is shown that such warnings could appear in introductory dialogues in the process of anaphoral development in the first three centuries. The compiler of the ‘Testament of our Lord’ added such a warning and reformulated it so that it became an allusion to the Sanctus. The reasons which could induce the compiler to do so are discussed. Possible explanations of why the Sanctus is absent in the anaphora itself are also given. The dialogue before Communi on, except that it does not contain the words ‘Holy things for the holy’ , is remarkable in that it may go back to Didache 10.6 or some other ancient liturgical dialogue resembling that in the Didache 10.6.

Among the illuminated codices came from the Joseph-Volokolamsky monastery there is a manuscript of great interest — a Psalter with the only image in headpiece (SHM. Eparchial Collection. No. 81). The manuscript contains a colophon with the scribe’s name (hieromonk Symeon), the date (1502) and the supposed patron (monk Kassian). Half-figured image of King David (fol. 1 r.) reminds of two well-known handwritten books — the Four Gospels (RNL. Q.I.19) and the Acts and Epistles of the Apostles (RSL. Fund 113. No. 79). Miniatures of two latter manuscripts are considered to be the art-work of “Dionisy’s circle”. Historical circumstances of the late 15th — early 16th centuries make it possible to suppose that all codices concerned have been created at the Josepf-Volokolamsky monastery workshop. This conjecture may be confi rmed by codicological and typological identity of these three manuscripts.

Modern problems of the priesthood, its theological foundation, historical origins and position in modern world became in the 20th century the subject of examination for the most famous Catholic theologians. At the same time the fi gure of priest is mostly refl ected in their works through the concept of ‘crisis’. However, the concept of ‘crisis of the priesthood’ was never systematically conceptualized, and its presence in the theological discourse looks like an axiom that needs no evidence. In literature it generally comes to description of the separate crisis phenomena. In most cases the authors note the downsize of priests, priestly identity crisis in modern world, the loss of the meaning of celibacy, the emerging of ‘pastoral’ and secular professions, providing competition to priests, loss of traditional functions of religion in modern society, and consequently the priests are suff ering primarily, as religions representatives. But on closer examination it turns out that these phenomena are not new for the Catholic Church and might have various and even contradictory interpretations. This article analyzes the main symptoms of the crisis described in Catholic literature, and suggests that the crisis of the priesthood is not a given, but some form of understanding the reality. This rhetoric allows to refl ect upon the current situation as a challenge which requires the mobilization of the forces of the church and an adequate theological response that can aff ect social reality.

This paper discusses the problem of teacher-pupil interaction in the process of spiritual and moral education on the basis of a secular and religious approach to derive the following conclusions. Pedagogical interaction depends on the harmonious combination of three factors: (1) activity, (2) activity arrangements, and (3) pedagogical relationships, with the latter factor breaking down into two types: objective (external pedagogical infl uence) and subjective (inner spirit). These considerations are truly relevant to development of a spiritual and moral education system that is based on a synthesis between religious and secular pedagogical ideas. This can be achieved under three pedagogical principles: cultural anthropology, interactivity, and complementarity. Religious education, as a component of spiritual and moral education, is comprised of the rational and sacred levels. The way a pupil develops at these levels is through making free choices in the domains of external (moral) and internal (spiritual) freedom. Mastering these levels by the pupil is thought to be through development of morality (external freedom at the rational level) in connection and harmony with development of spirituality (internal freedom at the sacred level) of the pupil in the child-adult environment, through open and creative spiritual teacher-pupil interactions.

This paper aims to clarify the reliability of the canonical foundation of St. Patriarch Tikhon’s position for the protection of Church relics taken from churches in 1922 under the slogan of famine relief. Conclusions as to the legitimacy of the Patriarch’s point of view are based on the reconstruction of the historical context of the confi scation of Church values, as well as on a more detailed consideration of the implicit aspects of the controversy between the opponents on this issue. Patriarch’s appeal to the 73rd Apostolic Rule and the 10th rule of the “Prime-Second” Local Council of Constantinople resulted from the three significant reasons: first, the inability to publicly appeal to decisions of the Local Council of the Russian Orthodox Church of 1917–1918; second, the distrust of the Church community of the government’s slogans; third, the beginning of confiscation of Church values by the state authorities that was uncoordinated with Head of the Church. St. Tikhon managed to adequately protect the ecclesiastical point of view both in the Revolutionary Tribunal and during the interrogations after his arrest. Fulfilling the requirements of the Antireligious Commission of the Central Committee of RKP(b), necessary for his release from prison in 1923, Patriarch did not change his views on the confiscation of sacred objects, and it was he who had the last word in this controversy.

In many countries, creating conditions for professional education and employment of persons with disabilities is an important and socially signifi cant task. In presentday Russia, special (correctional) boarding schools aim to provide socio-pedagogical support for professional self-identifi cation of their students, namely children with mental retardation. The paper deals with various approaches to the phenomenon of professional choice. The authors propose their understanding of factors that positively influence the professional choice of graduates of boarding schools of type 8. They also consider the content and methodology of supporting the professional choice of students with disabilities. Special attention is paid to those conditions, the implementation of which will lead to the effi ciency of social and pedagogical support in the professional choice of graduates of boarding schools. The results of the study can be applied in modernisation of social and pedagogical practices as well as in vocational work in special (correctional) boarding schools.

This article discusses positive trends in church life in Donetsk region during the period of 1944–1953. These are establishment of the diocese, inception of theological education, increase in the level of religiosity of the population, etc. However, it should be emphasised that after Donbass had been released after the war, it started to suff er again from confiscation of church buildings seized during the German occupation. The paper argues that the state initiated a massive attack against the church in Donbass taking advantage of characteristic features of this industrial region, namely the disunity of the newly-arrived population and a small number of church parishes. This attack proves that the improvement in the relationship between the church and the state during the war was temporary. This is also confirmed by such facts as forbidding missionary activity in this region, restricting activities of the ruling archpriest — Bishop Nikon (Petin).

The author analyses the fragment of the anaphora of the ‘Testament of our Lord’ which opens its petitionary section and is considered by many scholars as an epiclesis. The Syriac text of the fragment contains a petition addressed to the Holy Trinity which can be translated as ‘bring this drink and this food of Your sanctification’. It is shown that this fragment cannot be an invocation of the Holy Spirit upon oblation as had been stated by B. Botte and C. Richardson. The statement by N. Uspenskiy and archpriest L. Voronov that it is an ‘ascending epiclesis’ cannot be accepted either. It is shown that the Syriac imperative ʾaytāy (‘bring’) can be a misreading of the perfect form ʾaytīn (‘we have brought’), which can be confirmed by one of the manuscripts used by the first editor of the ‘Testament’ cardinal Rahmani as well as by the Ethiopic version of the text. The whole fragment can be a reduplication of the oblation of bread and wine in the Anamnesis, the element which usually binds together the anamnetic and petitionary sections of ancient anaphoras. Such reduplication could become necessary because the Testament’s compiler had restructured the eucharistic prayer of the so called ‘Apostolic Tradition’ and made interpolations into its text which resulted in that the Anamnesis had become separated from the petitionary section. At the same time, the fragment can reflect the intermediary stage in the development of the epiclesis, the transition from the petitition to sanctify the community via the eucharistic oblation to the explicit petition to sanctify the oblation itself. The unusual order of mentioning the eucharistic elements (first ‘drink’, then ‘food’) can indicate that the fragment had been taken from some ancient (no later than the 3rd century) liturgical source.

In the medieval Indian mythology, based on the texts of the Pali canon of Ttipitaka and the Puranas, there are images there are images depicting eschatological religious and philosophical ideas. One of the main images is Kalki - the tenth avatar of Vishnu, the Hindu Messiah, whose coming, according to the Puranas, must put an end to the moral and religious decay in the last days of Kali-yuga. The myth of the bodhisattva Maitreya, whose worship is widespread among the various schools of Buddhism, is connected with the prophecy about the future rebirth of Maitreya, who awaits his time in Tushita Heaven. This article presents the eschatological content of myths about Maitreya and Kalki and how it realized in the sequence of the mythological plot, associated with the ultimate destiny of the world at the time of completion of the next time cycle. Comparing the myths of Maitreya and Kalki, shows the certain similarity between the images of Maitreya and Kalki, which raises the question of which of the mythological plots was primary Proceeding from the earlier origin of the myth about Maitreya, it should be noted that the image of Kalki in the literature of the Puranas was formed by the influence of the inclusivist strategies of the Vishnu tradition.Despite the unity of mythological functions and active interaction, the images of Kalki and Maitreya are contrasted in relation to each other, since they show two different scenarios of cyclic eschatology : the Kalki court and his cruel retribution, and the preaching of Maitreya, that bring salvation for all beings.

This article analyzes the contemporary composer's creativity in the canonical Orthodox liturgical texts. It touches upon the problem of creative self-realization in the choir, the need for skill ownership arrangements, harmonization, styling and treatment when working with the choir singing the notes. The aim of the article is the main trends of development of Orthodox art of composing the post-Soviet time. The scientific significance of the research is related to the systematization of the works from the standpoint of the accumulation of spiritual potential, a particular manifestation of the "will to the sacred". The analysis is based on historical and sociological research methods involving art-specific tools. Circle the authors covered in the article - it is musicians who are in the church - choir, choir directors, clergy, sometimes reaching a sufficiently high level in the church hierarchy. At the end of the twentieth century, the problems haphazard accumulation of a critical mass of new works for the church, the lack of common criteria "liturgical" chants created. In the post-Soviet decade, the number of authors numbered in tens, now, at the beginning of XXI century is the time separating "the wheat from the chaff." Attention is drawn to the existence of the rules of the musical presentation of the liturgical text starting. Addresses the issue of training of the future regents basics of composition, which should be based on a detailed analysis of the syntactic structure, the rhythm of the verse analogues, copy typical melodic and harmonic turns of a certain voice. Revealed facts "podtekstovok" music, was not originally intended to be sung in the Orthodox Church: up to folk songs and instrumental works. To best suit the dispensation of the Orthodox worship, liturgical composers in their works appeal to the stable motives and themes, structural cliché musical-lexical and textured cliché known works of the author's style and as role models. Traditionally, the sometimes perceived in the secular work of composer as a triviality, in the church becomes dignity, recognition and guarantee of continuity.
